About this blog...

***** THIS BLOG HAS BEEN REPLACED IN 2012 ***** If you've come aross this blog site by accident, pop over to www.krystaguille.com for my current one *****

One lazy day in 2009, I decided to embark on a photo-a-day-for-a-year challenge. I set myself a goal to upload a different photo every day - some are of my gorgeous clients, some are of my ever obliging family and friends.

Well, I reached the end of the challenge year, and while I didn't quite succeed at a photo-a-day, this blog became part of my weekly routine.

And so I continue...at a new location.

Among the avocado trees... {family portrait}

Bron surprised Anton with this family portrait shoot as a birthday present.  And  we all had a lot of fun - especially these smiley-guys! I had to laugh when the grown-ups mentioned that the youngest monkey in this crowd might be shy - not likely!!  (I even got a bit of PDA - Public Display of Affection - from the grown-ups!)  It was a  gorgeous autumn afternoon in amongst the avocado trees.

Sneak peek from Mosman Park {wedding}

Exquisite wedding in Perth a few weekends ago.  Just starting to work on this one but this one caught my eye. Can't wait to share more...

It's simple {personal post}

I follow many blogs.

I can't remember where I read this little pearler but at some stage it caught my eye so I did a cut'n paste to my clipboard for later.  It wasn't until this last week that I remembered it was there & scrolled back through all the other pearlers I've collected over the months... the years...

I am kicking myself for not keeping the source of this.  One million apologies to the author of the blog I stole this from.  (It you recognise its origins, please let me know!)  But here's the gist of it...

"A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything.
It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.
In 2006, I began a tradition of choosing one word for myself each January —
a word that I can focus on, mediate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life.
My previous words had included; light, play, peace, vitality, nurture, and story
They've helped me to breathe deeper, to see clearer, and to grow.  "

This week, while enjoying some down-time with the family at my parent's holiday house at Busselton, my "word" popped into my brain.

Simplicity.

I let it percolate a bit.

Maybe this was a word I've been needing to hear but until now, I haven't been ready.

Maybe it was the surroundings that made the word surface.  The Busselton house was built by my father when I was ten, and very little has been altered since.  It's basic which is what makes it  what it is. Except perhaps for the outdoor shower that my brother and his mate, Nicko, built a few years ago, it is exactly the same house I have holidayed in every summer for most of the last 30 years, & that I lived in in my early 20's. Its the same house where many of my friends also came to create happy memories.

Maybe its because I'm nearing the end of my first full-booked wedding season, and this escape with my family was a chance to draw breath. Phew.

Or maybe its just because I have my health, my family & my friends.

Either way, the word fits, for now.

What's your word?

Bec + Steve, 5 March 2011 {wedding}

So, this is the sign we were greeted with on arriving at Bremer Bay one sunny autumn day in March.

But I was not fooled - I knew it was tongue-and-cheek as I'd seen the "Bridezilla" on a day before & she was acting most un-bridezilla-like.

Bec was, in fact, amazing! She organised her wedding all within a few months & all the way from their station-home out from Kalgoorlie whilst teaching their two young children with school-of-the-air, dealing with the recent flood damage & just generally keeping a busy household ticking over.  What a woman!  And Steve knows it! Which is why, after many many years together, & two gorgeous kids later, he proposed!

Thank you to Claire Camins for assisting me with Bec + Steve's big day, and especially for all the "extra duties" she undertook under the role of "assistant" (eg. knicker-flashing to make the kids smile for the camera).

Jayne + Boots {engagement}

Once again, we beat the rain.

We grabbed a window between torrential downpours to explore this avocado farm just outside of Albany.  The trees were just dripping with fruit - but we resisted the temptation to fill our bags... promise!

It was such fun Jayne + Boots - I look forward to your big day when we can do it again.

Taking a moment {corporate portait}

This picture is one I caught "between shots" when doing a corporate portrait shoot at UWA last weekend.

Ian + Conny {engagement}

So, there was rain on the way.

I'd been watching the BOM radar intermittently all day.  And I was watching out over the town as the grey clouds rolling in from the ocean.  I just needed the rain to hold off for one more hour - and it did!

Not only did the rain hold, but our nerves were rewarded with that magic light that only comes with storms and sunsets combined.  Let's hope we get exactly the same conditions in May when this lovely couple tie the knot!

Bremer Bay bonding {corporate portrait}

I get to meet some great people in this job.  Last week I met some of Bremer Bay's finest!

The Bremer Bay Volunteer Services Unit was named Outstanding Volunteer Emergency Service Unit in the 2010 annual Volunteer Emergency Service Awards.   The awards recognised the 900 Volunteer Emergency Service (VES) and Volunteer Fire Service (VFS) volunteers who played a key role in keeping the community safe.

And what worthy winners! They are a bunch of locals whose combined efforts to protect their community are genuine and committed - and they have a lot of fun while they do it!  I felt honoured to have been asked to do this shoot  Meet some of the winners...

Connection {wedding}

I'm supposed to be editing but as I'm working away, I'm smiling because these photos are smiling at me.

There is such a beautiful connection between Mother + Daughter here.  They  truly didn't stop laughing + smiling the whole day!   So I thought I'd share the love. I hope you can feel it too.

My camera's better {family portrait}

This little chap was very kind on Saturday.  While I was shooting his uncle's wedding, I could see him checking out my camera.  Then he offered to lend me his camera because it had a built-in-flash and my mine didn't! TOO CUTE!!!!

If you're wondering where he got that amazing hair from, check out his dad's website to see the family resemblance... and you might even like to order some wine while you're there!

Hard work {personal post}

Its official.

My children are without doubt THE hardest in  the whole of Albany to take photos of.

Today was "school photo" day at our school, so while the two of them were in shiny-new almost-florescent t-shirts, & ironed shorts (ironing in our house is so rare that it, alone, warrants bringing out the camera for!) I thought I'd try and get one or two pics "for the record", as I only ever order the full class photo from school.

Hard work! The only way I could HALF get them to play the game was by involving Ruby.

Later this month, Jess Marshall and I have some bartering planned; I'll be taking some mummy + me pics of Jess & her boys, and she will do the same of me & mine.

All I can say is GOOD LUCK JESS!!!!!!
